Fix Broken Filenames Inside a ZIP

Drop a ZIP made on macOS. FilenameFixer rewrites every entry name to NFC and hands you back a new archive — file contents are copied untouched and nothing leaves your browser.

Drop a .zip here or click to select

Entry names inside the archive are converted to NFC — file contents stay untouched. Up to 200 MB.

How It Works

1

Drop the ZIP

Choose the archive you received from a Mac. It stays in your browser.

2

Names are restored

Every entry name (files and folders) is converted from NFD to NFC. macOS metadata (__MACOSX, .DS_Store) is removed.

3

Download the fixed ZIP

The new archive stores names as UTF-8, so Windows Explorer and other tools show them correctly.

ZIP Filename FAQ

Why are filenames inside a ZIP from a Mac broken on Windows?
macOS writes filenames in Unicode NFD (decomposed) form. When the ZIP is extracted on Windows, Korean syllables appear split into jamo (한글 → ㅎㅏㄴㄱㅡㄹ) and accents appear detached. Some archivers also mis-read the names because the archive does not mark them as UTF-8.
Does this change the files inside the archive?
No. Only the entry names are rewritten. File contents, folder structure, modification dates and permissions are copied as they are.
Is there a size limit? Is the ZIP uploaded?
Nothing is uploaded — the archive is processed entirely in your browser's memory. Because of that, archives are limited to 200 MB. Password-protected ZIPs are not supported.
